Basic Camping Needs

Camping In An RV

RV

There are several definitions for the acronym RV. We consider an RV any vehicle on wheels that is equipped with the amenities generally found in a home; kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living area. RVs are intended for everything from brief relaxation activities such as camping and vacation, to full-time living such as traveling the United States for a year. They range in size from a small pop-up to a tow behind trailer to a drivable house on wheels. The choices are as limitless as the cost, but will always house the four essentials of a room for preparing food, relaxing, hygiene, and sleep.

Primitive No Amenities

RV

Since we know we are equipped with the essentials, the main concerns with primitive camping in an RV will be selection of your site, cooking and hygiene waste. RV's have cooking facilities, but you will not find water and electric on your site so you will need to make arrangements on how to prepare and dispose of refuse associated with your meals and hygiene. Primitive sites do not offer sewer service, so unless your RV is equipped with a black water holding tank, hygiene waste will have to be dumped at a dumping site at another location. Do not dump your used water on the ground. You will need:

  • to fill you water tanks
  • to fill your propane
  • be sure to have enough gas to run the generator
  • a holding tank if one is not built in

Partial Amenities

RV

RV camping with partial amenities will allow you all the comforts of home except sewer. You will have water and electric hook-ups available at your sight and you may even have cable TV. Most partial amenity campgrounds offer a camp shower and restroom for their guests that is shared among the camping community.

You will need:

  • A hose
  • Electrical converters 20 amp 30 amp or 50 amp

Full Amenities

RV

RV camping at a full amenities campground will be like camping in your home! Most sights are leveled and your leveling job will be minimal. They come equipped with water, sewer and electric. Cable or satellite TV is an option for those who choose to not miss their favorite shows. These campgrounds generally have all the luxuries of home and then some. Heated pools, Jacuzzi's, laundry facilities, playgrounds, miniature golf, dog park/walks, restaurants, snack bars, bars, music, movie nights, recreational rooms with pool tables, video games and more. Camp stores are on property so if you forgot an essential item it can be purchased without ever leaving the campground. You will need:

  • A hose
  • Electrical converters 20 amp 30 amp or 50 amp
  • Cable wires
